My Grandma

Macular degeneration has greatly impacted my family.
My grandma has always been the backbone of my mom's side of the family.
My grandparents are from the south and grew up very poor and married each other very poor.
My grandmother became a very successful real estate guru single handedly and handled all of their finances, bringing them into the good life.
However, about 5 years ago her vision suddenly seemed different to her one day and details were not as clear.
Eventually it got very bad and she was diagnosed with
macular degeneration.
She cannot handle their finances anymore and most of the financial decisions are left to my grandfather.
She is very depressed over all this. Cooking is also one of her favorite things to do and she no longer can.
I believe if she had gotten checked sooner they could have helped her somewhat so it would not have gotten so bad.
This experience has made me realize that you must go to the doctor when something is wrong and I will for sure be aware of my health and vision the rest of my life.
Things like
macular degeneration can be hereditary.
