Birthday In June

It was the middle of June, about the twelfth. It was my little sister’s birthday party.
The temperature outside was around the high nineties.
This stunk because the whole party was outside in the back yard.
I was happy because I was standing on our back porch, in the shade of an umbrella, feeling the draft that was coming from the opened screen door.
What was I doing? I was collecting presents.
A while later the guests were done coming in, so I had to shut the door.
It felt even hotter now…I was sweltering. When everyone left to go to our picnic table to eat cake, I saw the pool.
It looked wetter, cooler, and it felt like heaven.
I looked around and everyone was eating and not paying much attention to what I was doing.
I just couldn’t help it. I ran and jumped in the pool. Did I mention our deck was on the second floor? Oh yes…
I was falling head first into the blue sparkling pool of water. SPLASH!
“Hey no fair” said my little brother as all the kids ran to get into the pool.
Kids were coming in, but I didn’t care. I had gotten what I wanted and it felt good.
Next year we’re having my birthday in December.
